Obama Holds Big Lead Amongst Latinos

With 6 months remaining before the 2012 presidential election every political poll is now focusing on the 2012 swing state essential voters which include the minority group that has at the heart of speculation this election cycle the Hispanic vote. A recent NBC/WSJ poll that was done in conjunction with Telemundo revealed that Obama is maintaining his wide lead over Romney he holds a 34pt advantage over his Republican contender. Obama’s approval ratings among Latinos are also much higher than the national average with 61% approval of Obama’s handling of jobs and the economy. This seems to contrast with Romney’s favorable rating among Latinos being very low around 26% view him in a positive light. What will make it even harder for Romney to win over the Latino voters is that they already believe the country is on the right track compared to the rest of the population. While most of this general election polling seems to mean bad news for Romney the troubling sign for the Obama campaign is the lack of enthusiasm. 2008 was the election year that spurred excitement and around 81% of Latino voters were excited to get out and vote. That number has severely dropped and now only 68%  were polled as being “highly interested” in the upcoming presidential elections. This is a major problem considering that voter turnout especially by the Latino community could be a huge factor in this upcoming election, but as we said at the beginning there are still 6 months to go.
