58% of Americans Support Stronger Gun Laws

In the wake of the Newton, Connecticut shootings, 58 percent of Americans say they support the concept of stronger gun control laws, while an overwhelming majority favors specific changes to the laws. But in terms of specific laws, the ban on assault weapons has not gained significant support. According to a new USA Today/Gallup poll, 51 percent of Americans are against an assault weapon ban.
