For the first time in more than five years, 38% of Americans feel financially better off than a year ago, shows a new poll from Gallup. What's more, 66% were optimistic when asked if they expect their financial situations to improve a year from now.

This represents a significant improvement since May of Obama's first year as president, when 54% of Americans reported they were worse off.
