Ryan Selection Seen Less Favorably Than Previous Candidates
ABC News - 08/14/2012
While there is no doubt that announcing Paul Ryan as the Republican Vice Presidential candidate has shaken up the race many pollsters are now trying to determine if it is for better or worse. A majority of Americans polled stated that they didn't know enough or knew nothing about Ryan to form a positive or negative opinion about him, and an ABC poll from yesterday revealed that while many Republican's find him favorable 62%, Independents have a much lower favorable view of Ryan with only 39% seeing him favorably. Indeed in the latest Gallup poll also from yesterday while Ryan's positive rating is pretty evenly divided 39% viewing him as an excellent or good choice compared to the 42% who have an unfavorable view this rating is much lower than usual. For instance in 2008 Sarah Palin had a 46% favorable rating and in 2004 John Edwards had a 64% favorable rating. Some of these results may be from lack of information about Ryan in the general public so now there are 84 days for Ryan to make his presence felt and for people to form more concrete opinions.
