Split Desicion on AZ Immigration Law Strikes Down Key Parts of Legislation
CNN - 06/25/2012
A divided 5-3 Supreme Court Decision on Monday struck down key parts of the controversial 2012 Arizona Immigration law. The ruling favored the Federal Government having the power to regulate immigration, AZ does not have the right to undermine the federal government with their immigration law. The court also decided that the federal government has the authority to block the portion of SB1070 allowing for law enforcement to detain and question individuals suspected of being an illegal immigrant. The remaining question is whether the lone provision not struck down by the supreme court is enough, or if AZ law makers have to start over on their state immigration law.
